Arrival

Chongqing has multiple rail stations, and the correct one matters. The airport is north of the central areas, so plan city-transfer time and avoid tight arrival-night plans.

Where to stay

Jiefangbei is practical for first-time sightseeing, food, and night views. Riverside areas can be scenic, but check walking access carefully because short distances may involve stairs, slopes, bridges, or awkward station exits.

Transport

Metro and monorail are useful, but Chongqing is not a flat city. Ride-hailing can save energy, especially late at night or after a heavy meal. Always check the actual entrance, exit, and elevation of the place you are going.

Food and daily basics

Hotpot is the obvious highlight, but it is not the only meal. Mix in noodles, small restaurants, and simple food so the trip does not become exhausting. If you are sensitive to spice, ask clearly and keep a non-spicy fallback nearby.

First day plan

• Stay central for the first night.
• Use conservative walking estimates.
• Try hotpot when you have time and energy, not right before a transfer.
• Save key addresses in Chinese because vertical routing can confuse map apps.

Simple 3-day structure

1. Jiefangbei, river views, Hongya-style night area, and a simple first dinner.
2. Mountain-city viewpoints, metro/monorail experience, and hotpot.
3. Slower food day, museum/river route, or a transfer toward Chengdu or western China.

Avoid

Do not trust flat-map intuition. Elevation, bridges, station exits, and road layers can change the real effort of a route. Also avoid booking a beautiful river hotel before checking access with luggage.
